So one evening in our booth at the recent Paris boat show, we were chatting with our friend Alessandro di Benedetto (single-handed transat on a sports cat - trans-Pacific single-handed on a sports cat - circumnavigation via the great Capes on a Mini 650 - Vendée Globe - and many more) and Seb Roubinet (Northwest Passage under sail alone, and the “La voie du pole” expedition). And Alessandro announces he wants to set about another adventure of his own design (which for us surely means some crazy scheme) for the next Route du Rhum race. We’re not going to give away any of his secrets, but it looks like his idea will be to fly from St.Malo to Guadeloupe… He’s looking for sponsors for a program of offshore racing / record attempts for the 2017/2021 period. This program includes a prototype (multihull) to use for the record attempts and the 2018 Route du Rhum, but also as an experimental platform to house and test new technology for sailing, food and diet, power, environment, medical, etc.
