The Multihull Cup is a brand-new event only open to fast multihulls of over 50’. For the first edition, 6 exceptional catamarans met up in Majorca last September.
On paper, the entries expected for this first edition of the Multihull Cup appeared to be really promising, with three Gunboats, a McConaghy, an HH and a Green Marine – 6 high-performance catamarans from 62 to 78 feet, which finally had the opportunity to do battle, with some cut-throat racing.
And they put on a real show, with varied conditions – from a light breeze to a steady 18+ knots – and some good races during the three days of the event. It must be said that the crews played the racing game, and Majorca offers a multitude of possibilities for setting good courses, so that everyone can enjoy their day’s sailing to the full.
At the finish, R-Six finally won (4 points), ahead of Coco de Mer (7 points) and Slim (9 points). Allegra, Dragon and finally Outnumbered (which had just arrived from an Atlantic crossing) followed in that order.
The second edition, open to fast multihulls over 50’, will take place from 1st to 3rd September 2017 in the Balearics. There is no doubt that the Multihull Cup will quickly become an essential event in the Mediterranean for all multihull enthusiasts...
