America’s Cup, a first in Oman

7 to 9 knots of wind, that’s really not a lot. Not enough to get the ACWS catamarans (the class which will take the crews to the 35th America’s Cup in 2017 in Bermuda) flying.
But although this light wind didn’t allow the spectators to enjoy an impressive show, it nevertheless identified an interesting hierarchy for what follows: Ben Ainslie is a real war machine and his BAR team is a really serious candidate. They won, ahead of the Americans and Team New Zealand. The three catamarans were separated by just 6 points. Note the very good performance by the French in Groupama, who finished 4th, just two points from the podium and clear winners of the final leg.
The next meeting will be in New York, from 6th to 8th May, then in Chicago at the beginning of June for the next instalments in the adventures of the teams in the running to conquer the famous ‘Auld Mug, which has had sailors dreaming since 1851...
