In the ‘Ultime’ class
To date, just three have officially entered the Rhum: Banque Populaire V, with Armel Le Cleac'h, Thomas Coville’s SodeboUltime and Lionel Lemonchois’s Prince de Bretagne.
We already know that Spindrift 2, the biggest trimaran in the world, will also be at the start, with Yann Guichard. Quite a challenge to sail this 40-metre trimaran singlehanded across the Atlantic’s autumn depressions... But during the last edition, Franck Cammas proved that racing in a big boat (Groupama 3, which became Banque Populaire V) was a winning solution! The other ‘Ultime’ expected, Francis Joyon’s Idec, shouldn’t miss the adventure. That will therefore make at least 5 ‘Ultimes’ at the start, not to mention the glorious old boats which could join the party, and at least two MOD 70s (Musandam Oman Sail and Edmond de Rothschild).
To be continued!
