The ‘Tour de Belle Ile’: almost 500 boats at the start

The Tour de Belle-Ile has proved to be a consistent success, as once again this year more than 500 crews entered this race, which in just a few years has become one of the European classics not to be missed, for both pros and amateurs.

But this year, the weather didn’t play ball, and after having decided to start the race on the short course (39 miles) and leave the smallest boats in the harbor, the race committee gave the start for 435 boats, almost an hour later than initially planned. With 25 knots of wind, the race was invigorating, and finally the 60’ Orma Sensation Océan, skippered by Alain Gautier, won in 2h 9min, 9 minutes ahead of Yves Le Blévec’s Multi50 Actual. You had to see the winner’s smile at the finish to understand that this race has a really special flavor for those lucky enough to sail in it.
See you next year.
