Multi50 in Las Palmas
The Multi50s met up in Las Palmas for the first Gran Canaria Grand Prix.
A perfect destination (360 days of wind and sun per year) and a nice course allowed the trimarans present to do battle in an excellent atmosphere. Of the six legs raced, including a long 40-mile course close to the coast, Erwan le Roux (FenêtréA-Prysmian) and his crew won five, only conceding the final leg on the last day to Lalou Roucayrol (Arkema). A cut and dried victory. Gilles Lamiré (Rennes Métropole Saint-Malo Agglomération) finished third, and showed that when it comes to pure speed, he could give the two leaders something to think about.
Note that in the Multi50 class, they will soon have to reckon with a ‘newbie’, as Thierry Bouchard, a keen racer in Class40, has just bought the trimaran ‘Maitre Jacques’ which he has re-named ‘Ciela Village’. He is currently changing the trimaran’s floats, and should be at the start of the Transat Jacques Vabre next November.
