Madagascar

Unique and spellbinding, the island of Madagascar is one of a kind. Located between Africa and Asia, this island-continent offers peerless contrasts. With exuberant tropical forests, desert landscapes, “Mada” is also bathed in the waters of the Indian Ocean, and the lagoons of the many islets will give you the opportunity of discovering unbelievably rich seafloors.

Carnet de bord location Madagascar

Known as the Red Island, Madagascar 1600 km long and approximately 500 km wide. It has a series of highland areas rising abruptly above the eastern plain with a gentler slop toward the western coast, where most of the rivers flow into the sea. The tropical climate changes according to the altitude and the location with respect to the tradewinds: the windward western coast is very wet, while the leeward western coast is much less so.
A genuine melting pot, Madagascar has a population made up of some 20 different origins (Asian, African, Arab, Chinese, European, etc.). It should be remembered that the island is located at a crossroads of maritime routes between China, India, Arabia, Black Africa and Europe. This is surely behind the proverbial Malagasy hospitality.
Located in the Indian Ocean, Madagascar is separated from Africa by the Mozambique Channel. No longer truly Africa but not yet quite Asia, Madagascar is virtually an island-continent with unique flora and fauna. Nature here is exuberant and highly diverse: tropical forest, savanna, spiny desert, baobab trees, rice paddies, mangrove swamp, high plateaus and turquoise lagoons… You can discover a new world every day. With its 3000 kilometers of beaches, “Mada” is a paradise for those who love diving, fishing as a sport and, of course, sailing on several hulls. Edged with many islands and islets, some surrounded by true lagoons, the seafloors around Madagascar justify the trip in themselves. Particularly since, with so few companies offering boats for rental, you will systematically be alone at anchorage… A dream very few destinations can offer you!
