Tiamaraa : A river runs through it…

"The anchorage in Prince Rupert Bay is huge and the sea bed holds us in position well. Which is just as well as we'd just endured a whole day and night being buffeted by 40 knot winds. And this was after a very testing day's sailing from Deshaies, Guadeloupe. Getting our clearance was a formality with no difficulties. They do the check-in and check-out at the same time, so there's no need to go back, which is great. A few boatboys potter around the bay proposing their services: laundry, water taxi, various tours. They are much less annoying than in the southern islands as there are no trinkets for sale, or fruit and vegetables to barter over. Just a range of services. We chose Albert. His little set up for which he had a certified Tour Guide badge, and his laid back attitude reassured us. We started by visiting the famous Indian River (where Pirates of the Caribbean 2 was filmed) in a small boat. We were really impressed by the knowledge and enthusiasm of our guide. Every plant and every tree was identified and explained for us. The views are magical.
We continued with a day discovering the interior. Welcome to the Garden of Eden! Tropical flowers grow in the ditches like brambles grow at home. Cocoa trees, Coffee plants and all sorts of fruit trees (mango, grapefruit) line the roads. On foot you come across kapok trees, iguanas and colourful ferns. Just off one track we came upon rivers, waterfalls and natural fresh water swimming pools! A real treat for the eyes."
