Mediterranean Sea - Turkey

Turkey is the new essential destination in a cat. From the Black Sea to Syria, the very long coastline is incredibly rich. Between East and West, leave to discover the sublime Turkish anchorages…

Imagine: a coastline nearly 4,400 miles long, bordered with deserted creeks, archaeological remains, picturesque towns, mountains, deserts… Turkey offers everything and more!

Legend claims that it was on Mt. Arafat (the highest Turkish summit) that Noah, the most famous sailor in the bible, ran aground with his ark full of animals, and waited for the end of the flood.
You can’t sail there nowadays (there’s not enough water!) but you can easily follow in the tracks of Ulysses, as a large part of the Odyssey took place in Turkish waters. It was also here that the emperor Constantine created the town bearing his name (Constantinople, now Istanbul), the centre of Christianity…
Turkey is a genuine historical, cultural and religious crossroads! Wherever you look, there will inevitably be a lot to learn, and a cruise in Turkey always offers much more than simple anchorages. Not to mention the incredible local gastronomy. A real pleasure!

The charter bases are situated at Fethiye, Gocek, Kas or Orhaniye, Marmaris and Bodrum... Enough to discover the major part of Turkey’s most interesting coastline.

Leaving from Bodrum (birthplace of Herodotus, and the place where the tomb of King Mausolus can be found, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world), you mustn’t miss Black Island, Orak Island, Kisebuk, Seven Islands, Langoz, English Harbour, Cleopatra Island, Karacasogut, Cokertme and Yaliciftlik.

A seven-day cruise which will allow you to get an excellent idea of the riches of the Turkish coast.

Leaving from Orhaniye or Fethiye, you can discover Bencik, then Bozburun, Serce Limani, Bozukkale, a little trip to Greece, with the sumptuous Simi, then Datca and return to the departure base.

Gocek is one of the most well-known bases for discovering Turkey. You can head for Sarsala, Karacaoren, and Kapi Creek...

But although certain stopovers are not to be missed, you must above all allow yourself to live according to your wishes and encounters. Turkey must be experienced from the inside, with passion and pleasure, just like the Turks themselves!

A cruise which in any case you will not forget…
Practical info

Getting there:

Turkey is easily accessible by air from all the major European towns, and many low cost companies fly to the Turkish airports at Istanbul, Bodrum or Dalaman.

The best period for sailing in Turkey stretches from April to October. But even in the high season, the large number of anchorages available will allow you to spend a peaceful evening…

Outside the summer season, you will have all the anchorages to yourself! The best…

Beware, the meltem blows in Turkey. It starts gently in May-June (force 3 – 4) and blows at up to force 6 - 7 in July-August.

To go to Turkey, European residents only need a valid passport. No visa is necessary.

Official language: Turkish, but English, German and French are often spoken in touristy places.

The currency is the Turkish pound (1 euro = 2.35TRY).

Not to be missed:

There is so much to see. Certain of the magazine’s readers have been scouring the Turkish anchorages for years and still say that they haven’t seen everything…
