There was no question of letting the damage get any worse. So our solo sailor set about repairing the sail aboard Skiboo 2. The first challenge? Squeezing 1,076 sq ft (100 m²) of spinnaker into a saloon measuring just 86 sq ft (8 m²)! Next came the painstaking process of unpicking the binding along the sail's edge, realigning the fabric panels, applying adhesive reinforcement patches and carefully stitching everything back together. As the hours passed, his initial enthusiasm gradually gave way to frustration. "Guys, I'm telling you, I've had it with all this sewing!" Éric exclaimed, as spontaneous as ever.
Eight hours of work to repair 26 feet (8 meters) of sail edge! The job was finally done, but he'll have to wait until the next time he hoists the spinnaker to find out whether the repair holds. An exhausting day, without gaining a single mile under that sail…
