Voyage 510

Designed for Charter, but Great for Private Owners Too

Cape Town-based Voyage Yachts has produced several large cruising catamarans such as the 480 and 580 over the years, but by 2020, its lineup had been reduced to the very comfortable Voyage 590, whose build quality we were able to observe firsthand at the shipyard three years ago. But since July last year, there’s been a new addition: a more compact model, the 510, now completes the range. Jonathan Jagot, our correspondent in South Africa, went along to check out this new catamaran for us.

While the design of the new 510 is reminiscent of other catamarans by Voyage Yachts like the 590, the style is nonetheless more modern.t

This vertical view highlights the deck layout: virtually the entire surface area is easily accessible and usable.

The rig is classic, proven, and efficient, prioritizing reliability over unnecessary sophistication.

It’s from the beautiful mountains surrounding Cape Town that I’m writing this article about the Voyage 510. Proud to represent South African-built boats, I offer here my honest opinion on the catamarans I test in this part of the Southern Hemisphere. But before getting into the heart of the matter, I’ll say a few words about the Voyage Yachts shipyard, which I had the opportunity to visit before hopping aboard the 510. Welcomed by a very warm team in the heart of Montague Gardens, the industrial zone where the catamaran factory is located in Cape Town, we began the tour with a presentation on the design, hull preparation, technical choices, and the almost palpable energy that drives their teams. It’s always inspiring to see the different sections of a ship-yard working with such synergy and to chat to the men and women who talk about their work with a big smile on their faces.
