The American specialist in electric powertrains has developed a specific coachroof whose solar panels are capable of supplying 7 kW per hour. This installation will be offered for boats equipped with either a parallel hybrid system (with both a diesel engine and an electric motor on the shaft), or “Full Electric”, equipped with a powerful generator capable of running the electric motors for long periods. The GRP coachroof has been designed to withstand winds up to Beaufort Force 12. The surface has large cutouts to allow air to circulate between the two faces. What are the advantages? No pressure difference, cooling of the solar panels for better performance and two-sided panels for better usage of the light refracted back from the surface of the water. A rainwater catchment system is also being considered.
