Multihulls of the year

It’s been five years now since Multihulls World magazine and our French language edition, Multicoques Mag, launched the Multihull of the Year award for the best new boats in the multihull sector. Thanks to a dedicated website, thousands of you, our magazine readers, voted in that first edition. And given the number of new boats nominated for this 2022 edition, nothing can stop us now!

The juries from Multihulls World and Multicoques Mag have already met to select the 2022 nominees. Due to the dynamism of the market in general and multihull powerboats in particular, we have settled on seven categories - compared to four in previous editions:

The official results of the election will be announced during the International Multihull Show at La Grande Motte in France.

UNDER 40' SAIL

  • ASTUS 22.5

    With this model perfectly suited to fast coastal cruising, manufacturer Astus Boats completes the renewal of its range. All models now carry the prestigious VPLP signature.

  • TRICAT 6.90

    Tricat, a specialist in folding trimarans since 2003, has just launched a new model that fits in the range between the Tricat 20 and 25. The principal innovation of the 6.90 is that the aft beam has been removed, thus improving the circulation in the cockpit.

  • LIBERTIST 703

    The little sistership to the 853 has been long-awaited... but she made her entrance at the Grand Pavois boat show in La Rochelle! The big feature of this trimaran signed by Erik Lerouge is that the arms are now foldable.

  • MARLIN 33

    After many months of testing (both in racing and cruising), Bulgarian-based builder Elica is producing the Marlin 33, a performance trimaran with an all-carbon construction and a displacement limited to just 3,220 lbs (1,460 kg).

40' TO 45' SAIL

45' TO 55' SAIL

  • BALANCE 482

    This catamaran has proven to be fast in all conditions, including upwind sailing thanks to its daggerboards. The double helm station with a large articulated wheel, that already features on the 526, has been fitted here too.

  • RAPIDO 50

    The first Rapido 50 was launched in December and underwent initial seatrials - the polars promise speeds of 25 knots. This trimaran is undoubtedly one of the largest folding multihulls on the market.

  • WAVE 50

    An arch that extends the coachroof to the forestay fitting, bows with a steep reverse angle and huge mirror windows: the main idea behind the Wave 50 project is to be noticed – which is just as well!

  • WINDELO 50

    A multihull that is definitely innovative: more environmentally friendly materials, a sail handling station at the foot of the mast, a tilting door more than 16 feet (5 meters) wide... and it all works very well!

  • KC54

    South African shipyard Kinetic Catamarans is launching a 54-footer in collaboration with Simonis Voogd Design. The helm is located at the very front of the nacelle to free up the most space in the cockpit.

OVER 55' SAIL

  • LAGOON 55

    34 years after the launch of the Lagoon 55, the very first model by the brand, the manufacturer has (re)launched a new 55... The opportunity to take stock of the incredible evolutions in terms of comfort and ergonomics that separate the two models.

  • OUTREMER 55

    The objective of this new Outremer 55 is to offer the same level of performance as her illustrious predecessor - while providing the volume and level of comfort to correspond with the expectations of 21st century cruisers.

  • PRIVILEGE SIGNATURE 580

    Fluid lines and a coachroof supported by wide arches: the family spirit is evident at first glance. The Privilège 580 Signature is indeed a... Privilège. Which was not necessarily going to be obvious, given that this model is the first one designed 100% by the new team.

  • OCEAN EXPLORER 72

    The program of this large catamaran: Blue water cruising in high-end style. What’s more, this very fast boat remains manageable by a short-handed crew and safe whatever the weather conditions.

UNDER 40' POWER

  • PINBALL

    The manufacturer of this powercat designed for day trips has developed an original hybrid drivetrain: a central diesel engine of 265 HP and two electric motors of 8 kW each, with ducted propellers.

  • INVINCIBLE 33

    The smallest model in the Invincible range, the 33 has been designed by Morrelli & Melvin. With twin Mercury Verado 400 outboards, the boat managed to reach speeds of over 65 knots during its initial seatrials.

  • HERLEY BOATS 3400

    Specializing in the construction of aluminum motorboats, New Zealand shipyard Herley Boats has launched this first powercat powered by an internal combustion or a hybrid engine.

  • MY4.S

    This model replaces the MY 37: it retains the same hulls but has a new interior layout and, above all, a sedan deckhouse with a sunroof.

40' TO 60' POWER

  • C-CAT 40 POWER FISH

    Italian shipyard C-Catamarans has opted for an adaptation of its C-Cat 37: the hulls are slender and the engine power reasonable. The version presented here has a raised flybridge designed for fishing.

  • BALI CATSPACE MY

    Developed using the Catspace Sail as a base, the MY retains the very large accommodation and gains an XXL-sized flybridge. The hulls have been completely redesigned to optimize engine performance.

  • AVENTURA 14

    Here is a 14 (meter) that really deserves to be a 15, not least because the length of the hulls is in fact very close to 50 feet, but also for the volume offered - it is impressive!

  • LEEN 56

    NEEL, the experts in sailing trimarans, have launched the LEEN brand, dedicated to cruising motor trimarans. This 56, launched in April 2021, is the first model in the range.

MULTIYACHTS

  • ILIAD 60

    The dynamic Sino-Australian brand presents this Iliad 60 – ahead of an 80 and then a 90. Aboard this cruiser, the emphasis has been placed on controlling fuel consumption in order to extend the range to over 3,500 miles.

  • 60 SUNREEF POWER

    It may be the “smallest” powercat in the Polish shipyard's Power range, but it already has all the attributes of an ultra-modern multiyacht. Easy to handle, this luxury catamaran is designed for use with or without a professional crew.

  • SILENT 60

    This new model is carrying on the tradition of the 64, the first electric catamaran to have made a trans-Atlantic passage. The first unit, just launched, was able to validate its specifications, i.e. crossing without burning fuel.

  • AQUILA 70

    Flagship of the Sino-American brand, the Aquila 70 clearly plays the luxury card. Its bulbous bows contribute to its comfort at sea and its performance.

  • LONG ISLAND 78 POWER

    This high-end, one-off is designed for long ocean passagemaking for going anywhere in the world. A fine example of the know-how of the JFA builder, based in Concarneau, in western France.

  • VISION F80

    Turkey's shipbuilding industry boasts a long history and strong skills: this Vision F80 was built in aluminum near to Istanbul. The design is successful, and the volume is generous: good arguments when competing in the multiyacht market.
