LifeStraw Peak Solo

A straw for filtering water

LifeStraw is an American brand specializing in the creation of innovative filtration technologies to transform microbiologically contaminated water into drinking water. The first LifeStraw filter, introduced in 1996 in partnership with the Carter Center, contributed to the virtual eradication of Guinea worm disease.

The brand’s latest product, the Peak Solo straw, incorporates the world’s most compact membrane microfilter. This small size does not prevent it from filtering almost all bacteria (including E.coli and Salmonella), parasites (including Giardia and Cryptosporidium) and microplastics. As a result, LifeStraw Peak Solo meets US EPA and NSF P231 drinking water standards for bacteria and parasite removal.

The straw is designed to filter up to 530 US gallons (2,000 liters) of water, which should be enough to keep you going for a while aboard your multihull. The membrane microfilter is prevented from getting clogged by sand and silt, improving flow. In concrete terms, with a flow rate of 0.8 gal (3 l)/minute, you can fill a 32-oz (one-litre) bottle in just 20 seconds. The Peak Solo is made from 50% recycled plastic and is BPA-free. A wash syringe is included. Thanks to its compact size of 5.1” (13 cm) and light weight 1.7 oz (less than 50 g), the straw can be slipped into any bag and fits most standard water bottles.

In addition to the original blue, the LifeStraw Peak Solo is available in three new colors. Please note: LifeStraw has set up a virtuous production chain: it is B Corp and Climate Neutral Certified.
