Before going, the search for a suitable boat was a very interesting process. We had chartered quite a few catamarans in the past, but chartering for a week and living on the boat full time are two very different perspectives. We found our ideal ‘floating home’: an 8 year old Lagoon 470 owner version, with lots of very useful add-ons like solar, wind generator, washing machine and so on. However, there were still quite a number of items which required repair or replacement. So we spent two years in the Med upgrading things as necessary. Last October it was time to head out of the Mediterranean and get ready for our first ocean crossing. We first went to Tenerife. A week before Christmas the forecast looked reasonable. I admit that at first I was more than anxious but we arrived in Barbados 19 days later. It was a truly extraordinary experience!
