Round the world in 133 days in a cruising cat…

As incredible as it may appear, certain sailors set themselves average speed objectives to be kept to on a round the world trip which are quite simply staggering. The proof, with the owners of the n°1 Catana 70, who have just completed a round the world trip via Panama and Suez in… 133 days! Five months’ sailing in remarkable comfort (air conditioning, wine cellar, freezers, TV and internet…) with at the finish an average of 189 miles per 24 hours, a top speed of 25.4 knots and a 200 kg marlin caught.

‘I want a very fast boat which is very pleasant to live aboard…’ This was the owners request when launching into the construction of his boat. And he got it!

Magic moments in Cuba

I can’t resist sharing this moment of happiness we experienced at Cayo Largo, Cuba. I put the bows on the sand. Magic.

‘When the big boats invite themselves into the little boats’ playground’

This is the caption on the photos Guy sent us after having been ‘committee boat’ at the World Nacra 17 Championships aboard his Outremer 55 ‘La Smala’. Which goes to show that a passion for cats is not limited by size or use...

Seychelles, a magic destination

Just a word to tell you about our trip: for 3 months we sailed around the main islands of the Seychelles, Mahé, Praslin, la Digue, Curieuse, Bird Island, Denis Island, ile Plate… For sailors, note that it is recommended that you anchor and don’t use the few buoys available here and there, as they are never checked.

And for round the world sailors, note that there are very few other boats…they can be counted on the fingers of one hand!

Time passes quickly when you are cruising, we read an enormous amount, we dive, fish, simply watch the sea during the day…and of course the stars in the evening as you must remember we are almost at the equator and the starry skies are the most beautiful in the world.
