Time has passed since the famous Australians’ trimaran was involved in a collision in the middle of the night of November 4 with a fishing boat not far from Shodoshima, an island in Japan’s Seto inland sea.
Since then, our YouTubers have set sail for Chichijima, a Japanese island in the Ogasawara archipelago, known for its flora and fauna and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The family got to observe countless turtles while there, and Elayna even swam with a manta ray. Well, more like she tried to catch up with it, because the creature was pretty fast! But it was the whales that made the biggest impression on this leg of the journey, as many of them swam close to the trimaran, much to the delight of the crew, who even tried to capture their whalesong with an underwater microphone!
After these thrills, the journey continued to Maug, 450 nm away. This curious group of three small islands forming a circle is located in the north of the Northern Mariana Islands and covers an area of just three-quarters of a square mile (2 km²). These very steep and uninhabited islands surround the caldera of an ancient volcano and are especially impressive when viewed from the air.
The famous YouTubers’ new region for exploration is currently focused on Micronesia, east of the Philippines, and so they continued on to Guam, a U.S. island territory located in the western Pacific Ocean. They then headed to Pohnpei, one of the four states of the Federated States of Micronesia. Deserted atolls, magnificent scuba diving, spearfishing, and exploring shipwrecks punctuate the life of the crew—eight people in total!
Elayna, Riley, and their two sons, Darwin and Lenny, have given themselves six months to explore this vast area of the North Pacific, one of the most remote in the world.
There is plenty to do, as the country stretches 2,860 km (1,450 nautical miles) across the Caroline Islands archipelago. There are no fewer than 607 islands to discover, of which only 65 are inhabited!
