Even on board multihulls equipped with large storage capacities, freshwater autonomy remains a key concern when cruising far from marinas and/or with larger crews. It is in this context that Dessalator is upgrading its range with a new generation of watermakers featuring a brushless motor.
Unlike brushed motors, a brushless motor operates without internal mechanical contact. This reduces wear and allows for more precise control. On a watermaker, this results in more stable pressure regulation, more consistent water production, and less strain on components.
The manufacturer claims energy consumption reduced by up to 30%. At a time when powerful lithium battery banks make it possible to extend periods without running engines or generators for recharging, this saving is clearly welcome. The new Dessalator models are nevertheless designed to operate with all common battery banks - lithium, gel, or lead - without any specific adaptation.
The architecture has also been revised to facilitate onboard integration. The compact format allows installation in tight technical spaces without major modifications, whether on recent units or as part of a refit.
Operation is said to be quieter, with limited heat buildup even during extended use. The absence of brushes also reduces maintenance operations related to the motor.
