But why choose a multihull? "You'd have to ask my wife!" Jean-Michel replies with a smile. A longtime monohull sailor who still appreciates them, he ultimately opted for the space and comfort of a catamaran with longer voyages in mind.
This latest crossing doesn't mark the beginning of a circumnavigation, but rather the start of an extended cruise with no fixed schedule. After arriving in Marie-Galante, Jean-Michel plans to enjoy the Caribbean for a year, perhaps two… "For now, we're setting off with no return date in mind."
Although he has considered venturing farther afield, the distance from family and a few commitments back in mainland France have encouraged him to focus on the Caribbean. The Bahamas are among the possible destinations, perhaps even followed by a cruise north toward the United States. Nothing has been decided yet: the whole idea is to preserve his freedom.
