This is undoubtedly one of the biggest surprises of this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival: Oyster Yachts, one of the leading British names in bluewater cruising monohulls, is moving into multihulls!

The builder has unveiled the C60, a 63'9" (19.42 m) sailing catamaran designed with Berret-Racoupeau Yacht Design. It is quite a change of direction for a brand that has cultivated a rather conservative image for more than 50 years, but Oyster explains that it is responding to growing demand from its Owners, former clients and prospective buyers for more space, stability and comfort.
The C60 nevertheless intends to remain an Oyster first and a catamaran second. The focus remains firmly on bluewater cruising, with up to 3'3" (1 m) of bridgedeck clearance, 2,519 sq ft (234 m²) of upwind sail area, twin 110 hp engines and substantial storage capacity. The brand’s signature three vertical hull windows are also present. But the multihull configuration allows the builder to move into a different league in terms of space: Oyster announces 1,184 sq ft (110 m²) of connected indoor and outdoor living areas. Aft, two fold-down platforms and a central tender lift create a vast terrace over the sea, extending into the cockpit and saloon through large sliding doors. Forward, a recessed cockpit complements the flybridge.
The layout includes an Owner’s suite separated from the guest and crew areas, three double cabins with private bathrooms and dedicated crew accommodation. Oyster also intends to build on one of the brand’s major strengths: its entire support ecosystem. The Global Service Network, Bluewater Academy, Explorers Club, regattas and, above all, the Oyster World Rally will be available to C60 Owners, complemented by training specifically developed for multihulls. A rather clever way of changing the number of hulls without completely changing the formula!
