Meet Blue Zone, a 2011 Lagoon 620, hull #22, which has the distinction of having always been privately owned and operated. Her current Owners, a couple from Luxembourg, have enjoyed the yacht for the past seven years, mainly in the Mediterranean, with a professional crew employed year-round.
But what really sets this catamaran apart is the attention paid to optimizing her equipment. The Owner, who has a particular interest in technical matters, has invested in numerous upgrades with three priorities in mind: safety, self-sufficiency and weight management.
In terms of safety, Blue Zone features a particularly sophisticated lightning protection system, with devices connected to dedicated grounding plates. Her standing rigging is rod-type, while both the mast and boom are made of carbon fiber.
For energy autonomy, the catamaran is equipped with a 33 kWh Mastervolt lithium battery bank and 3.7 kWp of solar panels mounted on a custom-built hardtop. Their particularly open installation promotes airflow and therefore improves efficiency. Two watermakers, each producing 29 US gal/h (110 l/h), complete the equipment designed for extended periods at anchor.
Another interesting feature: rather than a conventional tender lift, the Owner opted for a 161 sq ft (15 m²) floating swim platform adapted to the davits. This lighter and particularly versatile solution makes accessing the water and enjoying watersports easier.
Inside, Blue Zone features a five-cabin layout with the galley down. The spacious, light-filled saloon offers two lounge areas, a dining space and a navigation station. The overall arrangement prioritizes comfort on extended cruises without compromising living space.
Finally, this Lagoon 620 is powered by twin 110 hp Volvo Penta D3 engines. According to her sales specifications, the optimization work has reportedly reduced her weight by approximately 1.5 t compared to a standard yacht, with claimed fuel consumption of less than 0.26 US gal per nautical mile (1 l/nm) at 6 knots.
This large cruising catamaran is certainly worth a closer look, especially considering her numerous upgrades and the fact that she has never been used for charter.
