The main on-board power source will be a 75-kW fuel cell powered by 120 lbs (55 kg) of hydrogen compressed at 350 bar, and it will be distributed and stored in 6 carbon tanks. Following on from the Samana 59 Smart Electric REXh2, the Sunreef 80 ECO Hydrogen could well be the second leisure catamaran to run on this promising 100% green technology. In the absence of other references, it’s interesting to compare the characteristics of these two models - all things considered, since we're dealing with one 30-ton multihull and the other weighing around 70. Energy requirements are in line with these displacements, as confirmed by the powertrain of 2 x 50 kW motor vs. 2 x 120 kW. This represents a ratio of around 2.4. The 75-kW output of the 80's hydrogen fuel cell may seem relatively low (for the moment!), given that the Samana's is 70 kW. On the other hand, the technological package promised by Sunreef stands out in many respects, with batteries capable of storing 440 kWh compared with 64 kWh on the 59. In this respect, the ratio becomes weighted in the Sunreef’s favor, at 6.90. The same goes for the solar panels, with 450 square feet (42 m²) of surface area capable of producing 6.2 kWp on the Fountaine Pajot, compared with 1,722 sq ft (160 m²) capable of producing 32 kWp on board the Hydrogen - that's 5.16 times more and, notably, 76% more efficient thanks to solar skin technology. The Sunreef 80 ECO Hydrogen will also be using the hydrogeneration system of its predecessor when going along under sail.
