They chose a Lagoon 43 operated by a charter company that splits its activities between the Mediterranean and the Caribbean, spending six months in each region. Since the catamaran needs to cross the Atlantic anyway to reach its winter base, the crew has arranged a charter lasting approximately 55 days, picking up the boat in Bonifacio, Corsica, and returning her to the marina at Le Gosier, Guadeloupe, on December 1.
After reaching the Canary Islands, Ty Casa joined the Rallye des Îles du Soleil fleet. "We chose this rally because its organization seems particularly well suited to our needs in terms of safety, but also because of its friendly atmosphere," explains Nicolas Chambon. The itinerary includes a first leg to Mindelo, Cape Verde, followed by the big Atlantic crossing to Marie-Galante, with the second leg scheduled to start on November 11.
Once in the Caribbean, the four crew members hope to spend a few days exploring Guadeloupe's anchorages, particularly Les Saintes, before returning their catamaran and flying back to mainland France.
A great way to fulfill the dream of crossing the Atlantic without having to deal with buying, maintaining or sailing a multihull back home!
