Fat Cat : Tuamotu, Marquises, then Hawaï…

The voyage continues for the Lagoon 440 "Fat Cat". Her crew writes us from Fakarava, in Tuamotus. In a few weeks, they will head for Hawaii.

Has it really been already a year? Well, it’s time for a little update. After spending last Christmas in Cuba and New Year’s Eve in Jamaica, Fat Cat headed for Panama. The canal transit certainly was a once-in-a-lifetime event. From there it was on to the Galapagos, then the long passage to the Marquesas and the shorter hops to the Tuamotus and then Tahiti. We spent a long summer in French Polynesia. From Tahiti to Moorea, to Huahine, Raiatea, Tahaa and Bora Bora, and then upwind on the return trip, we found an incredible number of nice bays, pristine beaches and crystal clear waters. And naturally we used the good infrastructure in Tahiti to get some projects done – it just seems that they keep cropping up, and if you don’t like to tinker on your boat, you should think twice before going cruising... And now we are headed back to the Marquesas, and we will go from there to Hawaii at the first opportunity, courtesy of El Nino. It is a 5,000 mile detour from our original plan, but then Christmas in Hawaii does not sound like the worst thing that could happen. At the Moment we are anchored at Hirifa inside Fakarava Atoll. The shallow lagoon is full of young blacktips, and we will go diving tomorrow in the south pass to see the famous “wall of sharks”. Life is good...
