Honuakea - Clocking up a third Transat!
On December 31st, we completed our third Atlantic Ocean crossing of the year aboard our Wharram Pahi 31, accompanied by our two children. At the very beginning of January last year, we left Mindelo in Cape Verde for a full-scale test run with our new catamaran. A first sail that lasted 16 days and which took us to the white beaches of Martinique, where we enjoyed the delights of the Caribbean for many months. Then came the hurricane season, and rather than trying to take shelter in a hurricane hole, we preferred to take to the seas again. So, at the beginning of June, we set off across the ocean again - this time from west to east towards the Azores. We reached the archipelago after 24 days of sailing. We could have brought the catamaran back to Europe, but we preferred Madeira and the Canaries where we took Honuakea out of the water for a refit. After a short trip to the island of Sal in Cape Verde, where we always feel so relaxed, we were off again for a third crossing in less than a year! Once again in the direction of the West Indies, where we’re hoping to top up the ship’s coffers. After 17 days of sailing in minimalist mode, the coast of Marie Galante hove into view.
