P’tit Filou in the Surin Islands

“Quick, let’s flee the crowds and the stifling heat of Ao Chalong, and leave for the wild northern islands: Surin & Similan. Our catamaran, P’tit Filou is sailing in a light north-easterly breeze, and we are enjoying another nice day at sea. It’s hard to express everything we felt when we discovered these islands. The Similan Islands are situated 62 miles off the coasts of Phuket, in Thailand; we stayed there for three days, and anchored in two different anchorages. The water is crystal clear, the seabed is white sand – this is most certainly a corner of paradise. Don’t forget your fins, mask and snorkel, to discover the multicoloured underwater life. We then headed for the Surins, on the Burmese border, 58 miles further north, in infinite peace and tranquility, with lots of opportunities to imagine yourself as Robinson Crusoe. We explored some heavenly places in the dinghy, with flora and fauna accessible to everyone (turtles, moray eels, sharks, coral, sponges, anemones, and their clown fish), which prompted us to prolong our stay. Pure pleasure, with harmony with nature as a bonus. On the return trip, we stopped in the Similan Islands; a beach for us alone, which at daybreak we shared with some dolphins – the final scene in this dream stopover!”
