Tricat 6.90 Performance XL

More Power, but as Simple as Ever

We first tested the Tricat 6.90 in a strong southwesterly blow some five years ago, but now we’re returning to Brittany to check out the new Performance XL version. This time, the Gulf of Morbihan welcomed us with less than 10 knots of wind. Weather that many would find frustrating… but weather that François-Xavier Tillier, Tricat’s CEO for the past two years, had been almost wishing for. Because it’s precisely in light airs that this new version aims to make a difference on the water.

François-Xavier was even sporting a broad smile. It is precisely under these conditions that his new Performance XL is supposed to reach its full potential. “We wanted a multihull that performs better in light airs and heels less.” That pretty much sums it up in one sentence, though I should clarify that we’re talking about a maximum heel of 10°, reached when the standard 6.90 is ...
