What does TBS stand for? Terre Battue Synthétique [in English, synthetic clay court]... This footwear and clothing brand, founded in 1978, has a sporting heritage but didn’t immediately target the boating market.
TBS turned its attention to deck shoes with its Yole model in 1983, which was improved in 1989: the Globe was designed for the very first edition of the Vendée Globe round-the-world race. Sailor Pierre Follenfant took part in the event aboard his boat TBS-Charente-Maritime, wearing Globe shoes: the legend was born! These boat shoes, made from high-quality full-grain leather, stood out from classic boat shoes thanks to their technical grippy sole and very distinctive side structure. “We added reinforcements to the port and starboard sides of our Globes so that your feet don't move around with the boat,” said the shoemaker's advertising. Later renamed Globek, the model is worn by the greatest sailors, such as Michel Desjoyaux and François Gabart. The strength of the Globek is, of course, that it is associated with great and demanding maritime adventures, while also satisfying landlubbers and city dwellers who want to combine style and comfort. The model offered today by TBS remains faithful to the original but is enhanced season after season with a wide range of colors.
