Based in Vigo, in northwestern Spain, Ankerplex specializes in anchoring equipment. Following its first anchor, designed to be dismantled and easily stored, the Spanish manufacturer has adapted its patented concept with the Drop, this time designed to remain permanently on the bow roller.

Its main originality lies in its construction: three electropolished AISI 304 stainless-steel components are joined using a patented mechanical assembly, with no welding, bending or lead ballast. Ankerplex highlights good resistance to corrosion and abrasion, while the absence of moving parts limits the risk of jamming.
The geometry and weight distribution allow the Drop to launch itself from the bow roller when the chain is released, before quickly penetrating the seabed. The manufacturer also claims good resetting performance when the boat swings due to changes in wind or current. These qualities are particularly interesting aboard a multihull, whose significant windage places considerable loads on the anchoring system when conditions become more challenging.
Available in weights from 13 to 88 lb (6 to 40 kg), the Drop is designed for boats weighing up to 25 tons. It obviously remains to be seen how this original design performs in real-world conditions - ideally over a few particularly windy nights!
