Following the much-noticed launch of the Aquila 50 Sail in Miami last February (with 50 units already sold!), the American builder is pressing ahead with its expansion into sailing catamarans.

Presented as a world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival, the 45 Sail is the second model in this new range, complementing an offering that until now had been exclusively dedicated to powercats. A third model, the 65 Sail, has already been announced for 2028.
In Cannes, we were able to discover a very well-finished catamaran that, unsurprisingly, adopts the main features of the 50 Sail: a vast aft cockpit, a genuine flybridge and, above all, direct access between the flybridge and foredeck (on the starboard side), with the traditional trampoline replaced by a solid area featuring a bench seat and sunpad. The flybridge accommodates five people around a U-shaped bench seat, while the aft cockpit can seat eight around the table and also features a bar and barbecue/griddle area. Large openings provide continuity with the saloon and galley.
Below deck, three- or four-cabin layouts are available, all with private access to their own bathroom, for a maximum capacity of 12 berths. A crew cabin can also be installed in one of the forward compartments. Construction uses vinylester infusion for the hulls, deck and structural bulkheads, with no wood used in the structural components.
With 1,352 sq ft (125.6 m²) of upwind sail area, the 45 Sail comes standard with a conventional mainsail and furling genoa; a square-top mainsail and 1,200 sq ft (111.5 m²) gennaker are available as options. Standard power comes from twin 50 hp Volvo Penta saildrives, with 60 hp Volvo Pentas or 57 hp Yanmars available as options.
