This 40th edition of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers brought the 32 multihulls we had seen in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, safely into port after a fine 2,700-nautical-mile Atlantic crossing. We now catch up with the fleet in Saint Lucia.
Paul Tetlow, Managing Director of the World Cruising Club, gives us his assessment of the 2025 edition and shares the multihull results as a preview: “This year, the Multihull division stood out with exceptionally fast crossing times; the Italian Rapido 53XS Picamole crossed the finish line in Rodney Bay just 10 days and 18 hours after leaving Las Palmas, setting a new record for the category.” It is worth noting that the trimaran was clocked at 27 knots and crossed the line in second position overall - the first competitor, which had been trailing the multihull for a long time, actually arrived 12 hours earlier. This was a Volvo 65, a pure racing yacht only ten years old. The multihull podium was completed by two Marsaudon/ORC boats, though not in the order one might have expected: the Finnish TS42 Squid pipped the French ORC 57 Avel Vaez at the post, despite the latter being theoretically much faster.
As a reminder, in the Multihull division the use of one or more engines is permitted but is accounted for in corrected time. Here, we have referred only to the results in elapsed time, which may therefore include a few hours of motoring.
