Our multihulls, cruising extensively throughout the Caribbean, offer nothing but advantages over monohulls - except when it’s time to haul out. That’s when things get more complicated.
Facilities capable of lifting a catamaran 20 to 40 feet wide, or even worse a trimaran, are not exactly plentiful under the tropical coconut trees of the Caribbean.
Fortunately, there are a few well-known spots such as Trinidad and Tobago, Carriacou, and Grenada in the far south. To the northeast, boaters appreciate the facilities in Puerto Rico. Farther north, Freeport in the Bahamas is a reliable option. Along the U.S. East Coast, there are no handling issues at all - it’s even possible to haul out a multihull right in the middle of a city like Miami.
But in the heart of the Antillean arc? There are a few well-equipped yards in Saint Martin, but the true central hub is unquestionably Le Marin, in Martinique. There, sailors benefit from a vast anchorage area and a wide range of services. Among the many yards and specialists on site, Carenantilles stands out with its 2.5-hectare facility capable of accommodating 200 boats, its 80- and 440-ton travel lifts, and its 14 workshops.
A truly essential address.
