The multipowers market was in its infancy around the end of the 1990s, but it’s now the one in which the marine industry is investing the most, whether they are originally manufacturers of sailing multihulls or monohull cruisers. Engine-powered multihulls offer greater interior volume, a larger deck area, better seakeeping under way (and at anchor!) but much lower fuel consumption – they’re hard to beat! As a result, numerous new manufacturers emerge every year, and their projects are more than just dreamy 3D images. These new models are launched, sailed and then ordered by other customers. As a sign of maturity, the powercat market has expanded, and it’s now appropriate to speak of multipowers, since LEEN offers motor trimarans. The multiyacht segment has been growing strongly since 2015, and now sport-cruisers under 40 feet are also booming; Two- and three-hulled powerboats are definitely on the up - and it’s not just an image, with hybrid power/sail formulas now on offer. What’s more, the range of multipowers equipped with electric motors continues to grow, making this category the largest of all - and thus the starting point for this Power Buyer’s Guide. Let’s hope that, with the energy transition, the boundary between sail and motor will become less clear-cut - come on, let’s talk about it in 10 years’ time!
