Sometimes, the figures speak for themselves. Of the 21 multihull world premieres presented at the Cannes Yachting Festival, 14 were power multihulls… And in this 7th Power Multihull Buyer’s Guide, we’ve listed nearly 160 cruising models ranging from 20 to 80 feet. A record!
We know that many members of the Multihulls World community proudly proclaim their unwavering allegiance (so far, at least!) to boats with two or three hulls – yes, but with sails! And yet, we’d encourage them to try a power multihull, just once. There’s no need to push the engines beyond 20 knots and watch your range rapidly diminish. No, simply spend a few days cruising and at anchor, largely free from the constraints of the weather.
They’ll soon discover that a power multihull is, first and foremost, a multihull. You dock it, anchor it, eat aboard, sleep aboard, relax and have fun. So yes, there are no sails to hoist, unfurl, trim and then put away – and for those who don’t know me very well, this is coming from an incurable racing sailor! And yet, aboard a power multihull, you’re every bit as much on the water, living an adventure whose story begins to unfold the moment you engage the engines.
Worried about your next visit to the fuel dock? Take a close look at the fuel consumption figures and, above all, the fuel efficiency per nautical mile of the eight powercats we’ve tested in this special edition. You might be surprised to discover just how economical two engines can be at speeds between 5 and 8 knots. Hybrid and even fully electric solutions are also gaining ground, paving the way for even lower fuel consumption. You’ll find these models in our Buyer’s Guide thanks to our familiar green Forever Green badge.
Want to know more about all these power multihulls? Each model has its own QR code (or a link in our digital editions), giving you access to its technical specifications, additional articles and, of course, if we’ve been aboard, our sea trial and videos.
Enjoy the read… and the videos!
