Sailing and doing something worthwhile, it is possible... even when racing, as will be demonstrated by Jean-Pierre Balmès on November 4th when he sets out on the Route du Rhum on board his Outremer 4X “Ritual”. On the hulls, a clown's head spelling out the message...
A pro-skipper, offshore racer (he did the mini transat 20 years ago and the Solitaire du Figaro 40 years ago - Jean-Pierre is above all a man whose heart is as big as his talents as a navigator. He naturally wanted his dream of taking part in the Route du Rhum to be marked by one value, solidarity: his boat bears the colors of the RIRE Clowns Association for children in hospital in the Montpellier-Sète region of southern France. An association whose mission is to bring a better life to hospitalized children and their families by bringing clowns into the hospital.
And this partnership between the offshore sailor and the association falls rather well since Rire-Clowns is celebrating their 25th anniversary this year. 25 years of bringing joy to the children, their families and the staff looking after them!
Today, the Rire Clowns Association has 50 volunteer clowns and 3 professional clowns who come in 6 days a week and visit around 7,000 children a year.
A beautiful partnership:
JP Balmès will be offering trips out to sea for hospitalized children and their families so that despite their illnesses, they can enjoy a break and pause for breath.
His “Solidarity Outings at Sea” are offered as corporate charter, on board his boat "Naviguer avec Rire!", skippered by him, and for inviting clients on board, to live a "Mini Route du Rhum"!
Enabling him to offer even more stars in the eyes of children at the hospital...
