Designed by Cossutti & Ganz, the PY60 displaces 30 t and features twin 50 kW electric motors powered by an extensive solar installation and a battery bank. During our sea trial, at 7 knots, the monitoring screens showed a consumption of just 10 kW per motor. An encouraging figure, although solar production and any contribution from the generators must obviously be factored into the overall energy balance. The builder claims a theoretical range of 150 nautical miles in fully electric mode and up to 5,000 nautical miles with generator assistance.
On board, our tour also confirmed the attention paid to the interior fittings. Household appliances are seamlessly integrated, the woodwork and finishes are particularly refined, while translucent honeycomb panels allow light to filter through into the private living areas. The Owner's hull features a spacious suite, with an additional forward space that can be reserved for children or crew. The electric motors, installed beneath the berths, free up valuable space for technical equipment.
With more than 2,153 sq ft (200 m²) of living space claimed and remarkably quiet cruising, the PY60 makes you want to enjoy the journey rather than keep checking the speed displayed on the screens. As the Pioneer team puts it, the real limit to the yacht's range might simply be how much food you can carry aboard - a true celebration of slow living! Look out for our full sea trial in an upcoming issue of Multihulls World.
