Hømer Cushions: The Test

Comfort and Durability Guaranteed!

Laurent sent me two cushions for this test, not just one... Let me start with the backstory: Petits Cadors was founded less than 10 years ago, launching a headrest cushion for use in cars.

Muriel and Laurent, parents of two young children, were dissatisfied with traditional U-shaped headrests, so they came up with Isodor, which can be attached to the headrest. The couple then launched other pillows and turned their attention to the boating market. Committed to eco-design, Petits Cadors uses high-quality recycled materials to limit its impact on resources. From the outset, Muriel and Laurent decided to promote the circular economy. Their gamble paid off: today, Petits Cadors has a team of 10 people who design and manufacture all of their products in their own workshop in Nailloux, France.

The Hømer cushion cannot deny its heritage with Isidor: like its predecessor, it is triangular and has various attachment systems. But this is definitely a “nautical” product, as evidenced by the choice of Sunbrella® fabric, which is resistant to harsh environments. With its premium materials (Dyneema lines, for example), it is resistant to salt, sunlight, and mold.

Approved by Professionals!

The first test took place during our trial of the Fountaine Pajot New 41. By securing the two Hømer cushions to enlarge the comfort zone, we created a deckchair that can be used anywhere. Aboard the 41, my tester Erwan particularly enjoyed sitting in the corner between the side-deck and the coachroof and on the aft platform.

For the second test, I took the cushions aboard the Tricat 8.50, and it was on this small trimaran (inevitably more rustic in terms of comfort than the New 41, which is already equipped with multiple seats) that the Hømer cushions really came into their own. François-Xavier, who had spent several long hours at the helm a few days earlier, sitting on the hard deck, immediately adopted the cushions. Attached to the lifelines for perfect positioning when sailing close-hauled or shared in the cockpit when at anchor, the two cushions were in use throughout the afternoon. The soft comfort of the Hømer cushions appealed so much to the Tricat skipper that he kept them both!
