Presented in a world premiere at Metstrade and expected to go on sale in late 2026, the RAD 120 extends the RAD Propulsion range into the world of high-power solutions, while maintaining the reliability and simple integration that characterizes the British brand.
This 120-kW continuous electric outboard operates between 350 and 450 V and can drive propellers up to 17 inches in diameter. It reaches 5,000 rpm at the motor and approximately 3,000 rpm at the propeller. Its integrated 180-degree steering, already proven on the RAD 40, eliminates the need for any external mechanisms and obviously makes maneuvering easier.
The RAD 120 is available in two shaft lengths, long and extra-long, to accommodate a variety of hull configurations, both for refits and new installations. The announced weight is approximately 385 lbs (175 kg). On the energy side, RAD is introducing 21 kWh and 61 kWh fast-charging battery modules, which can be chained together to provide up to 244 kWh depending on requirements. According to Pete Byford, Chief Technology Officer at RAD Propulsion, their ultra-flat format is directly in line with the philosophy of “compact integration,” designed to facilitate installation in the technical spaces available on board.
Like the RAD 40, the new model is based on the RADBus fly-by-wire architecture, with an interface dedicated to partial automation projects. The system is still delivered in a plug-and-play configuration. Real-world testing is scheduled for early 2026 in the UK.
