Regular readers will be familiar with the crew of the Outremer 51 Piment Rouge, a frequent contributor to Multihulls World. Last year, on the first edition of the ARC+ to Grenada instead of St. Lucia, the French catamaran took line honors, but dipped out on corrected time to a NEEL 47.
This time, Piment Rouge weren’t first across the line - they were beaten by a Mylius 60 in the A Class - but they won the Multihull division on corrected time. Note that the catamaran arrived three and a half days earlier than last year! An excellent performance, though it was a close call: Helia 2, another Outremer 51, US-flagged this time, was barely two hours behind! Third place went to Balance 3, a Finnish Lagoon 42. At the prize-giving ceremony held at Prickly Bay marina, on the south coast of Grenada, Pierre de Saint Vincent, the skipper of Piment Rouge, really put on a show. A big fan of heavy metal music and partying in general, he managed to rouse the enthusiasm of the 400 crew members who attended. There were 27 nationalities represented among the participants, with ages ranging from 3 to 76 years old... And among the 91 boats, 20 were multihulls. The craze for blue water cruising is such that Paul Tetlow, the new Managing Director of the World Cruising Club, made mention during an interview with Multihulls World of an ARC reserved just for multihulls, with the finish maybe taking place at an anchorage rather than in a marina...
