Our appointment was set for December 2nd at Port-Pin-Rolland, the marina owned by the Catana Group. It wasn’t very warm, of course, but the wind was steady at 15 to 16 knots, and the water had just a little chop, guaranteeing excellent testing conditions...
Despite its 20 tons, the replacement for the 4.8 and 5.4 managed to maintain an average speed of 7 knots close-hauled and even climbed to 10 knots under the Code 0.
On board, we found all the features of the 5.8 - the tilting aft door, forward door, rigid foredeck and huge flybridge. Hull #1 that we tested was a 1 + 3 cabin version, but the 5.2 is available in 3 cabins, 4 cabins 2 + 2, or even 5 or 6 cabins (plus possible fitted-out forepeaks). The builder offers numerous customization options so that this catamaran will lend itself to a variety of programs. Note that they’ve retained a “traditional”, forward-facing chart table - except that this location is now becoming a genuine 100% connected control station.
