160 Nautical Miles Averaging 18 knots!

Mid-October, I got the chance to join as delivery crew on the trimaran Solidaires en Peloton, skippered by Thibaut Vauchel-Camus, between Saint-Malo, in Brittany, and Le Havre, in Normandy. This multihull is none other than the former Arkema 4, built by Lalou Multi.

Our video:

Thibaut and I had turned our respective multihulls downside up in the same front during the last Route du Rhum in 2022, which inevitably created bonds between us!

This superb 50-foot Ocean Fifty is set to take part in the Transat Café l'Or on October 26, with Damien Seguin as co-skipper.
During our express delivery trip, the trimaran covered 160 nautical miles in less than 9 hours - an impressive average of 18 knots. Conditions were ideal with 20 knots true on a reach, ensuring lightning-fast acceleration and we even recorded peaks of 34 knots!

At the helm, the sensation is unique: it’s like piloting an oversized sports catamaran that’s lively, responsive, and incredibly stable on one hull.

It was an unforgettable experience, marked by the precision of the adjustments and the calmness of the skipper - and my eyes reddened by the salt spray after five hours at the helm.
Thank you, Thibaut, for your confidence in me. We’ll be sure to follow the news of the Ocean Fifty Class and the Transat Café l'Or in forthcoming issues of Multihulls World!
