For now, the wind is easing. A large high-pressure system is moving in behind the catamaran, threatening to slow her progress. Éric is doing his best to avoid getting caught in its light winds while sticking to his planned route.
As the miles slip by, the atmosphere is becoming increasingly tropical. The ocean has shifted from deep blue to lighter shades, while the flying fish continue to mistake the Excess 11 for an international airport! Still no dolphins or whales in sight, but Éric never tires of gazing out at the vast expanse. "The more miles I cover, the more I feel at one with the elements."
Another source of satisfaction is Skiboo 2 herself. After so many miles and a few demanding maneuvers, the catamaran remains a reliable and comfortable companion. "I think we take care of each other," Éric confides, doing his best not to push his trusty mount too hard.
Now all that remains is to reach Guadeloupe, then sail around its coastline to the Route du Rhum finish line. Éric still hopes to cross it before the first competitors - his onboard ETA currently points to November 3 or 4 - and then welcome the great champions he admires so much.
