The unmissable Multihull of the Year contest, organized by Multihulls World magazine and the International Multihull Show, has been finally allowed to have a proper awards ceremony. Following the last two editions when the results have been announced “at home”, it was on April 20th, during the first evening function (organized by our partner Sevenstar Yacht Transport) of the big multihull event at La Grande-Motte in the South of France, that seven of the nominees became winners.

Over 250 exhibitors were present in the VIP tent - more than ever before! The event, presented by Emmanuel van Deth, our editor, and Gwen Dorning, our marketing director, was shown in real time on social media and was of course the subject of a video posted on YouTube and social media that same evening. The 2022 WINNER’s banners were handed over to the shipyard representatives: everyone was able to be there except for the team from Rapido Trimarans. The following morning, the winning multihulls being exhibited at the show were quick to get their banners on display despite the wet and windy weather.

Let’s remember that the MOTY is a unique election in two ways: it is a competition exclusively for multihulls (sail and power) from all over the world, and above all it is YOU, readers, sailors, racers and especially users of the nominated multihulls, who determine the winners. Our dedicated website www.MultihullOfTheYear.com, saw no less than 22,000 votes cast. Strengthened by this success, we’ve now set about putting all our resources into preparing for the 6th edition that will be even better - the opportunity to thank our loyal sponsors (some of whom accompanying us since the very first edition!).

Nominees for MOTY 2023

The list of nominees for the election of the multihull of the year 2023 will be revealed on February 15th 2023, the opening day of the Miami International Boat Show, one of our new partners. Voting will open immediately and will remain open until next year’s International Multihull Show in April 2023.

Sail

Under 40 feet - Marlin 33

In this category, where four trimarans were competing, it was the all-carbon model built in Denmark that won by a wide margin, with nearly half the votes. Obviously, we’ve made an appointment to test this little rocket ship for you!

40 to 45 feet - Leopard 42

TEST MW177

Three cruising catamarans and one trimaran competed in this section, and South African builder Robertson & Caine took the top spot with 37% of the votes - the Seawind 1370 came in second with 24% of the votes.

45 to 55 feet - Rapido 50

Victory for this fast and folding trimaran built in Vietnam, came as a real surprise in a category which included models with very distinct personalities. While all the other competitors obtained very similar results, ranging from 17 to 20% of the votes, the Rapido took 25% of the votes.

Over 55 feet - Outremer 55
