It would appear to have nothing to do with the Fusion 40 that we tested in MW104, a 40-foot (12-meter) catamaran available as a kit based on a design by Australian Garry Ligbard... No, this is an all-new 80-foot multihull that aims to be a bit like, or even completely like, a “Gran Turismo catamaran,” a market that is experiencing real demand from passionate (and wealthy) owners, despite a very limited supply right now, apart from McConaghy and a few custom models. This niche seems to be attracting some of the biggest players in the industry, with Sunreef maybe crashing the party in the near future. Watch this space.

Getting back to the Fusion 80: its basic architecture is reminiscent of Gunboat – the design is by VPLP - but the shipyard is expected to limit the use of carbon. Above the coachroof, a flybridge is obligatory... The layout should ensure optimal comfort in every detail for a long-term live-aboard lifestyle, as promised by the 205-square-foot (19 m²) master suite with its own private access to the water.
