On November 1, it's a complete change of pace: the Breton sailor will start the Route du Rhum aboard Liamm, his 101'8" (31 m) Ultim trimaran. Formerly Olivier de Kersauson's Géronimo, which won the Jules Verne Trophy in 2004, this trimaran was launched in 2001 and underwent a major transformation at Multiplast in 2014 to become Sodebo Ultim, aboard which Thomas Coville set his solo round-the-world record in 2016.
Up against the latest-generation Ultims, Guirec readily accepts his underdog status. He knows the strengths of his trimaran, the oldest in the fleet, and intends to make the most of its robustness.
After his round-the-world marathon, it's time for a 3,542-mile transatlantic sprint, where tactical decisions and speed will make all the difference. His goal? Reach Pointe-à-Pitre in under ten days.
For this race, Liamm will also carry the colors of the charitable endowment fund of the same name, which supports patients at the Armor hospitals. A charitable dimension that perfectly reflects Guirec's spirit, as his adventures clearly extend far beyond the world of competition.
