After several years of heading to Brazil as its destination, the Rallye des Iles du Soleil (the sunshine islands rally) has been setting a course from the island of La Palma, in the Canaries, to Marie-Galante, off Guadeloupe, since November 2017.
This transatlantic rally, open to all sailboats - monohulls and multihulls – of over 33 feet (10 meters) in length, includes a stopover of a few days in Mindelo, on the island of São Vicente, Cape Verde. This rally differs from the ARC events in several ways: it keeps a more intimate format with just a hundred or so people, mostly French-speaking (the organizers are counting on 30 to 35 boats, not more) and is not a race with corrected time - only a line-honors classification is used. Also noteworthy: breakfasts are offered at all the stopovers and arrival in Marie-Galante is organized in an anchorage, on mooring balls, not in a marina, which is often more appreciated by the multihull crews.
