For beach lifeguards, their equipment isn’t just limited to a rescue can and a pair of fins - some lifeguard stations are equipped with outboard-powered inflatables for rapid response.
However, engines and, above all, propellers pose a risk of further accidents during “close contact” operations. This is why jet skis have become the norm, especially on beaches exposed to waves. But for calmer waters, Italian manufacturer Martini Costruzioni Nautiche, a specialist in composite construction for over 50 years, offers a complete range of rowing rescue catamarans. The best known of these is the Redlife. This lightweight craft can be launched very quickly thanks to its large built-in wheels. Stable at sea and fast to row, the Redlife has been designed to withstand intensive use thanks to its robust construction (reinforced polyester and mahogany structure). The seating position and raised oarlocks ensure comfort and endurance for the rescuer, while the low-slung platform at the stern is very practical for picking up a swimmer in difficulty. The Redlife comes fully equipped with lifebuoys, 100 feet (30 meters) of floating line, a wooden boat hook, and wooden oars with nylon oar collars.
