Athena 38

Launched at the La Rochelle boat show in September 1994, the Athena 38 was positioned between the Tobago 35 and the Venezia 42. All the models in this second generation, designed by Joubert/Nivelt, are characterized by their blunt bows, very rounded shapes on the inside (the miracle that polyester GRP must have been for naval architects long familiar with wood, steel, aluminum, and chined bilges!) and finally the overhanging coachroof cap, which is the one feature that would be retained and still remains today.

A Fan of this Model!

The model presented to us by Graham, the regular translator for Multihulls World, is from 2001. It’s worth noting from the outset that our Captain is quite familiar with this model, having already owned one - hull #164, a 4-cabin charter model from the Sunsail fleet - with which he crossed the Atlantic before cruising the Caribbean, the Bahamas, the US East Coast, Canada… before heading south again, passing through Panama, and setting sail to cross the Pacific. After this voyage with his family, Graham sold his first Athena 38 in Australia in 2012… But now, 12 years later, he’s bought hull #152 in the Caribbean, this time a 3-cabin Maestro version!
