Nautitech 41 Type S
- Nautitech 41 Type S
After thirteen years in production and 259 examples built, the Nautitech 40 Open has recently been retired. Launched in 2013 and tested by Multihulls World back in 2014, this Marc Lombard design has spanned three model-years without ever compromising its founding principle: combining the cockpit and saloon into one spacious living area while retaining two off-center helm stations, relatively slender hull forms, and a genuine pleasure to sail. Now replaced by the 41 Type S, the 40 Open has therefore fully entered the second-hand market… with a particularly wide range of offers available.
When the Nautitech 40 Open was introduced, it stood in stark contrast to the cruising catamarans of the day. Rather than continually enlarging the saloon, Marc Lombard and Nautitech significantly shifted the aft bulkhead of the coachroof forward. With the door open, the cockpit and the small interior saloon practically combine to form a single space. Large side deflectors and the rigid bimini provide protection and fabric partitions even allow the area to be completely enclosed should the weather turn bad.
Thirteen years later, the design has lost none of its relevance. Life centers around the aft deck, as close to the water as possible, while the two helm stations on the transoms allow the helmsman to stay in contact with the crew. Above all, Nautitech has never sacrificed dynamic performance in pursuit of space. Right from our very first test sail, the sleek hulls, lightweight platform, deep skeg keels, and generous bridgedeck clearance proved their effectiveness in bigger seas.
It is this consistency that likely explains the model’s exceptional longevity.
