The new Amec B650 series is a range of 5 W Class B+ (SOTDMA) AIS transponders designed for recreational boating, fishing vessels and small commercial craft.
One of the key advantages of this new generation is the adoption of SOTDMA technology, the same system used by Class A AIS transponders. It provides priority access to transmission slots, even in busy shipping areas where conventional Class B AIS units may experience delays in transmitting their signals.
Another advantage is the increase in transmission power from 2 W to 5 W, while the reporting rate automatically adapts to the boat's speed. For example, a boat traveling at 23 knots transmits its position every five seconds, compared with every 30 seconds for a conventional Class B AIS transponder, significantly improving tracking by nearby vessels.
The range is available in four versions, with selected models featuring an integrated VHF antenna splitter, Wi-Fi connectivity, or both. All units incorporate a 72-channel GNSS receiver and are compatible with NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183 and USB, making them easy to integrate into existing onboard systems.
Prices range from €739 including VAT for the B650 to €1,229 including VAT for the fully equipped B650WS.
